Willis Earl Beal – “Acousmatic Sorcery”

Willis Earl Beal has one hell of a backstory and an amazing, raw voice to boot. Born on the South Side of Chicago, he joined the Army in his 20s and was medically discharged, then moved to Albuquerque where he was homeless for a bit. While in Albuquerque, he drew flyers with his phone number asking you to call him and he would sing you a song (he also drew his album cover above). These flyers helped him get published in Found Magazine which in turn provided enough attention to get him signed to his first record label, Hot Charity/XL Recordings. Below is a clip of Willis singing the first single off his album titled Evening’s Kiss on Later with Jools Holland.
